Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo has stated the resumption of contact sports in the country is to be decided in a “couple of weeks”.
He made this statement in his latest address to the West African nation on the corona virus pandemic that has affected many a country in the world since the start of the year.
Though the number of active cases of infection has dropped significantly over the past weeks, there are still restrictions in force in the nation.
One of such restrictions is the ban on contact sports including basketball and after several months since the ban came into effect, many in the basketball fraternity expected a resumption of activities in President Akufo-Addo’s latest speech.
However, that is to be decided in the final quarter of the year; basketball events have been suspended or flat out cancelled due to the corona virus.
Such events include Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Championship, Accra Basketball League and Sunyani’s GSP Basketball League.
