Between Steph Curry’s last NBA game and his next regular season game, more than nine months will have passed.
You can bet your last dollar that the two-time NBA MVP and three-time NBA champion is itching to get back on the hardwood.
“Of course I care. Of course I want to play basketball,” Curry said during an Instagram Live session with “LetsGoWarriors” last week. “It’s what I love to do. I want to go compete, be out there with my teammates. The fans obviously want to see basketball, too. There’s a lot of variables at play when it’s actually going to start, but of course I want to play basketball and I want the season to start.
“This has been the longest seven months of just waiting of all time. Even watching the Bubble, it was tough, so definitely ready to get back out there and play.”
Curry actually hasn’t played in more than eight months, and only has played in five regular-season games since the end of the 2019 NBA Finals.
The Warriors’ superstar broke his left wrist on Oct. 30, 2019, in the fourth game of the season, and missed more than four months.
Upon his return in March, Curry appeared in one game before he caught the flu and missed the final two games prior to the NBA season being suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Curry’s injury, along with Klay Thompson missing the season and Kevin Durant’s departure to the Brooklyn Nets in free agency, caused the Warriors to fall to the bottom of the NBA. They finished with a league-worst 15-50 record and were one of eight teams not invited to the season restart in Orlando, Fla.
But now Curry and the Warriors have a tentative start date for the 72-game 2020-21 NBA season. The Players Association voted this week to approve the league’s proposed Dec. 22 opening night.
Very soon, “Chef Curry” will be cooking on the Chase Center court, and he clearly can’t wait for that day.
