Mfantsipim

It has been over two years since Mfantsipim School won the Sprite Ball Championship for a record fifth time in the Boys Division of the celebrated Championship.

Sprite Ball is Ghana’s biggest High School basketball tournament and Mfantsipim clinched the 2019 title via a 35-16 win at the El Wak Sports Stadium.

However, the 2020 edition had no winners since the school that ended up topping the field was later disqualified for fielding ineligible players.

Keta Business College played Mfantsipim School in last year’s final and ended up with a shock 32-24 win but was later stripped of the title, cash prize and items including medals due to fielding ineligible players.

However, Mfantsipim was not declared winner of the tournament with teams eliminated by Keta presenting a legitimate case on their chances of progressing further in the competition had they not been eliminated by a school that fielded unqualified players.

What was planned to be staged later this year didn’t materialize as COVID 19 related restrictions had participation in contact sports including basketball banned.

Mfantsipim therefore holds the record with the most days as Sprite Ball Champions.
