Basketballghana.com gathers Nigeria Basketball Federation President Musa Kida has asked for $4 million from the country’s Sports Ministry to prepare for the upcoming Olympic Games.

The amount is to be shared between the Men’s Basketball Team and Women’s Basketball Team set to represent the West African nation in the delayed Olympics later this year.

D’Tigers-Nigeria’s Men’s Team- qualified to the Olympics thanks to three wins in five games including victories over China and fellow African nation Ivory Coast. However, losses to Argentina and Russia cost Nigeria a place in the knockout stage.

D’Tigress-Nigeria’s Women’s Team-qualified to the Olympics via a qualification competition held in Serbia on the back of a quarterfinal spot at the Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria has competed at the Olympics in the Men’s Basketball division in 2012 and 2016 and is expected to make its third straight appearance at the competition.

The Female Team competed in the 2004 Olympics and this year’s tournament is set to be its second ever appearance at the Games.

Former NBA Coach of the Year Award winner Mike Brown and former NBA Assistant Coach Otis Hughley are the Head Coaches of the Male and Female Teams respectively.
