West African nations thus far dominate the list of nations that have qualified automatically to the quarterfinals of the 2021 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.

The tournament due to end on September 26 in Yaounde, Cameroon has four of eight quarterfinal places picked up with the group phase coming to an end.

Mali, Cameroon, Nigeria and Senegal won all games played in Groups D, A, B and C respectively; Mali beat Ivory Coast 76-63 in its final game.

Host nation Cameroon on the other hand secured a 71-40 win over Cape Verde to top Group A while Nigeria topped Angola 85-65 in the headline game to get closer to successfully defend its title.

2019 Finalist Senegal beat Egypt 78-63 in another marquee matchup to close out its Group Stage phase with two wins in as many games.

Second placed nations in the various groups will compete to fill out the remaining spots in the quarterfinals later today and on Thursday, September 23 including an all North African matchup between Egypt and Tunisia.
