Basketballghana.com can report Brazilian side Flamengo has won the 2022 FIBA Intercontinetal or Club World Cup for the second time in its history.

Flamengo beat then defending champions San Pablo Burgos from Spain 75-62 in the final and Lucas Martinez of Flamengo was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament; he bagged 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win. (Click highlighted text to watch game highlights)

Africa’s representative Zamalek of Egypt lost 78-113 to NBA Gatorade League (G-League) Champions Lakeland Magic to miss out on the bronze medal.

Despite having better production from the bench unit, Zamalek was simply outgunned by the North American representative.

Veteran Nigerian Forward Ike Diogu registered a 13 point, 15 rebound double double and was one of five Zamalek players to score in double figures. Magic’s Hassani Gravett and Jeff Dowtin scored 22 and 21 points respectively.

This year’s Intercontinental Cup was held in Cairo, Egypt; it marks the first time the tournament was played on African soil. Zamalek is preparing to defend the Basketball Africa League title as the 2022 edition tips off on March 5 and is due to end on May 28.
