Basketballghana.com can confirm Rwanda Energy Group (REG) Basketball Club has returned to Rwanda after a weeklong training camp in Turkey.

The camp served as preparation for the Rwandan club towards its participation in the playoffs of the 2022 Basketball Africa League (BAL).

The playoffs take place from May 21 to May 28 at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda with eight teams representing eight African countries due to participate.

All eight teams qualified from the Nile Conference (four teams) and Sahara Conference (four teams) after playing in five games. REG topped the Sahara Conference standings with four wins and a loss.

The team played three friendly games in Turkey against the likes of Bahrain and Qatar; REG beat Kuwait 77-67 in one of the friendly games.

REG takes on Cameroonian side FAP in the first round of the playoffs; all games in the playoffs are decided by a single elimination game format.

Veteran Rwandan international Kenneth Gassana has joined the team for the playoffs after leading fellow Rwandan side Patriots to fourth place in the 2021 edition.
