Nigeria Federation President Musa Kida

Basketballghana.com can confirm Musa Kida will be officially sworn in as the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) President January elections results held earlier this year were accepted by Nigeria’s Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The acceptance is part of a broad number of announcements made earlier today by Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Ismaila Abubakar most notably the decision to rescind the decision to ban Nigeria from competing in international basketball competitions for two years. President Kida has embroiled in a leadership/ administrative turmoil that led to the ban prompted widespread backlash from the likes of Toronto Raptors President Masai Ujiri.

In the aftermath of Nigeria’s return to the international basketball scene, President Kida thanked authorities involved in the process especially Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The Board of the NBBF has extended its gratitude to His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari for rescinding the Federal Government’s decision, through the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sport, Chief Sunday Dare, to withdraw the national teams from international basketball. The NBBF President, Engr Musa Kida, thanked the Honourable Minister, the Permanent Secretary and the other Management staff of the Ministry for their support in resolving the issue” according to NBBF’s official Twitter page.

Due to the ban, Nigeria was replaced as Africa’s representative at the upcoming Women’s Basketball World Cup in Australia by Mali. FIBA is yet to make a decision following Nigeria’s return at the time of writing.
