Tema Youth finished off Holy Family in a lopsided game to move atop of the Greater Accra basketball league at the weekend after a thrilling 55- 46 win.

The Tema based side who have lost a game in the seven week old league started the game without their head coach was away on an official assignment.

Coming into this game on top of the league table, Lebanon House was filled with fans who came to watch whether they could still maintain the status quo.

The game started quite slowly, especially for Tema Youth who were trying their best not to make too many mistakes in the absence of their coach. Teddy set things off for Holy Family with a couple of good open shot choices.

Holy Family took a quick 4-1 lead with about 4 minutes gone in the first quarter. Their opponent started by playing a lot of ball in the paint and drawing a good number of fouls which took them to the free throw line.

But then Tema Youth made only 3 of the about 8 free throw opportunities they got and Holy Family capitalized to take the first quarter 9-6.

Tema Youth were a little bit disorganized early in the second quarter. They just turned over too many times. But then they regrouped and played some well organized ball, their point guard took charge and they run their offensive plays better as compared to the first. They “picked and rolled” and “picked and popped out” creating a good spaces for teammates to hit open jumpers. Eventually even creating space for Enoch to hit a three pointer. Holy Family’s big man, Gemain worked hard on both ends of the floor; grabbing rebounds and then taking a good number of trips to the hole.

The third quarter very low coring. Both teams managed to make only 6 points apiece. Tema Youth tried their best to stay in control of affairs despite their coach still not showing up. Holy family failed to make use of good opportunities and rather started complaining about bad officiating. Tema Youth coach then showed up in latter part of the third period. Coach Attipoe of Holy family was eventually ejected from his bench for over complaining and misbehavior towards the match officials.

Coach Quaye of Tema youth quickly regrouped his troops and they started producing at a wonderful rate. Tema Youth once again made very good use of the athleticism and jump. They simply took charge of the last quarter; grabbing rebounds on both ends of the floor. Tema Youth eventually triumphed on the day to stay at the top of the table with 13 points. But Hoops Care could topple them at the top of the table after playing two games less. They are on ten points.
