Tema Youth’s inability to honour a league game over the weekend has landed them in Ghana’s second-tier league despite placing fifth in the overall rankings.

Various interpretations have been deduced for the failure of one of the most improved sides to honour the game which has landed them in hot waters.

According to the rules governing the Greater Accra basketball league series, any team that fails to honour a league match on time will forfeit the points and automatically be relegated.

The match against Hoops was billed to jump ball at 14hrs GMT but Tema Youth arrived twenty minutes late after which officials called the game for the Cape Coast based side in spite of the protest from the Tema based side.

The ruling means Tema Youth will play in the lower league next season despite placing fifth on the league table.

Many basketball fans have described the situation as unfortunate travesty of natural justice but officials say they will not budge.
