spritelogoThe Sprite Ball trophy tour of Ghana’s Eastern Region is complete as some qualified schools in the region had the honor of hosting one of the most coveted trophies in West Africa.

Having already secured spots at next year’s competition, Pope John Senior High and Minor Seminary and Koforidua Senior High School (K.S.T.S.) hosted the tour entourage after it made a similar stop over in Accra earlier.

The tour forms part of a long list of activities designed to increase awareness and whip up interest for the upcoming competition. The 2016 Sprite Ball Championship takes place between January 3-7 at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra and will feature 26 schools drafted from six regions.

DSC_0228Pope John Senior High or POJOSS was the first to receive the trophy delegation as school authorities including Headmistress Mrs. Benedicta Foli and teachers commended organizers for putting together such a special event that celebrates discipline and creativity through basketball.

Students on the other hand came out in huge numbers to throw their weight behind the event by promising to invade the El-Wak Stadium when the tournament begins. They took turns in taking pictures with the trophy before bursting out loudly singing “jama” songs in reverence to the trophy.

DSC_0299K.S.T.S. was the next point of call as the entourage rolled into the land of the “SECTECHIANS”. A regional basketball powerhouse, K.S.T.S has been an ever present feature at the Sprite Ball championship.
Addressing the tour delegation, Headmaster Mr. Poli reiterated his school’s commitment to the competition and promised a strong showing from his team in the championship.

Both schools will represent the Eastern Region at the main championship in the boys’ division whilst Nkawkaw Senior High School’s female basketball team represents the region in the girls’ division.
