Wisconsin University College are on a mission of redemption as they head into the 2016 Rexona Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship. The championship designed to harness Ghana’s great basketball talent at the tertiary level.

Unlike tertiary tournaments which are akin to specific sects of institutions including Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games and Private Student’s Association (PUSAG) Games, UPAC houses all tertiary institutions.

The intense depth of competition drawn from the many institutions dotted around the country makes the 10 week event, the biggest and most exciting hoops tournament in Ghana and certainly one of the best in the West African sub-region.

Wisconsin wilted in the face of extreme competition from University of Ghana, University of Professional Studies and Marshalls University from Accra Region Zone 3 in their maiden appearance last year.

The team lost all three group games including a 42-27 mauling by fellow debutants Marshalls before bowing out of the competition with the unwanted tag as the “Whipping Boys”.

With renewed energy and preparations well underway, the Kwabenya-based institution is primed to erase memories of their abysmal showing last year.

The 2016 UPAC Basketball Championship is set to take place between March 5 and April 16 and is sponsored by the world’s best selling deodorant brand Rexona and supported by CAL Bank in partnership with media outlets including TV3, Starr FM and Basketballghana.com and Graphic Sports.
