The 2016 Rexona Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship is set to take place between March 5 and April 16. Conversely, a series of warm up games for participating schools to fine tune their skills will precede the much awaited tournament.
Counting down to tip off later this month, Basketballghana.com takes a look Zenith University College’s chances at claiming the biggest and best tertiary competition in Ghana.
The institution’s basketball credentials reched its zenith after securing famous wins over 2010 and 2012 Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games, University of Ghana and Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration in last year’s edition.
Winning 34-34 and 24-23 against the aforementioned institutions secured the 2014 Private Universities Students’ Association (PUSAG) Games champion as a name to look out for when tertiary basketball talk pops up.
Zenith can be surely listed a dark horse contednder for the title as a bevvy of talented players who are still in great shape despite the long off season. Guys like Ekow Abaidor, Kingsley Quist, Joseph Boye and Joseph Sena played in the community basketball tournament tournament held late last year.
Coupled with the experience gathered from playing in the last UPAC Games, Zenith have more in their arsenal to blow up hoops hierarchy.
The 2016 UPAC Basketball Championship is set to take place between February 27 and April 16 and is sponsored by the world’s best selling deodorant brand Rexona and supported by CAL Bank in partnership with media outlets including TV3, Starr FM and Basketballghana.com and Graphic Sports.
