Ghana Technology University College (GTUC-Accra) and University of Ghana (UG) failed to show up for warm up games organized over the weekend prior to the start of Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

The UPAC Championship, headlined by top-selling deodorant brand Rexona, will begin on March 5 at the University of Ghana at 8:00 GMT. The warm up games were organized as part of activities to promote Ghana’s grandest tertiary basketball competition.

In all 12 Accra-based institutions were scheduled to play in the arranged scrimmage. However GTUC and UG did not feature in the two day curtain raiser. GTUC captain Charles Annan said logistical and administrative challenges prevented the team from training the week prior, as the reasons behind his side’s no-show in the games when contacted by Basketballghana.com.

GTUC will play host UPSA, Ho Polytechnic and Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in Zone A as they seek to top the zone and secure an automatic qualification to the quarter finals.

UG were numb on the issue when contacted. The reigning Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Basketball Champions will play Marshalls University College, Central University College and Wisconsin University College in Zone G on April 8.

The 2016 UPAC Championship is supported by Fanyogo, MTN and CAL Bank in partnership with Basketballghana.com, Y FM, TV3 and Ghana Sports.
