University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) Point guard Robert Fiifi Brew was named Most Valuable Player of Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship Zone C games organized yesterday at UENR’s basketball court.

World best-selling deodorant Rexona is headlining this year’s UPAC Championship and had four tertiary institutions, UENR, Catholic University College (CUC), Sunyani Polytechnic and Sunyani Nurses’ Training College compete for a quarter final slot.

The penetrating Guard prior to UENR’s final game against CUC was a solid but not spectacular player on a roster that featured top shot blocking Center Ben “Ibaka” Quarshie. However, when the stakes were at their highest, Brew delivered for his team which trailed by five points at the end of the first half to end the third quarter leading 33-7.

The highlight moment of Brew’s one man demolition mission of CUC was in the third quarter where he gathered a pass whilst struggling for balance, crossed over his man and drove hard to the basket to score. The ingenious moment sparked UENR into action as they overturned a five point deficit to lead 33-17 at the end of the second quarter.

Speaking to Basketballghana.com, he said, “I thank my teammates and I thank God too because my teammates helped me to become the MVP. Brew averaged 6.4 points ,four rebounds and two assists in three game played.

UENR secured qualification to the next stage of the competition following successive wins over Sunyani Nurses Training College and CUC. The quarter final games will be played at the University of Ghana on April 14. He walked away with products from sponsors for his winning efforts.

The 2016 UPAC Championship is supported by MTN, CAL Bank and Fanyogo in partnership with Basketballghana.com, TV3, Y FM and Ghana Sports Newspaper.
