Suleman”Big Time” Abubakar has been named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the just ended Zone F qualifiers of the 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

The 6 foot 6 inches Center was instrumental in Accra Polytechnics’ undefeated run in the competition subsequently qualifying the host team to the quarter finals of the competition.

Abubakar averaged 9.6 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks per game against Blue Crest College, Zenith University College and Valley View University. His emergence was much needed as Accra Polytechnic faced a daunting task in replacing 2015 Tertiary Player of the Year Romeo Enan, who is missed out on this year’s Championship run.

His impressive play complemented highly rated duo 2015 Most Valuable Player of the Year Abdul Mutaleeb Alhassan and Small Forward Farahat Aliu Tamimu as they willed Accra Polytechnic to a third straight quarter final appearance in Ghana’s best tertiary basketball competition.

Abubakar’s MVP scoop ends the reign of Guards dominance of the prestigious award. Prior to being awarded the top individual prize, backcourt players including Kelvin Sowah Kumah of Kumasi Polytechnic had been awarded MVP in all four completed zones of the preliminary stage. He received assorted items from sponsors of the competition.

The 2016 UPAC Championship is headlined by Rexona, supported by MTN, Fanyogo and CAL Bank in partnership with Basketballghana.com, TV3, Y FM and Ghana Sports Newspaper.
