Blue Crest College Shooting Guard Emmanuel Kofi Otu has praised his teammates for playing above themselves in the 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship Zone F qualifiers despite failing to make it out of the preliminary stage.

The team placed third in the zone behind hosts and defending champions Accra Polytechnic and Valley View University. Blue Crest lost to both teams after picking up a surprise 19-18 win over Zenith University College in the opening round.

Otu, who was singled out by team coach Kofi Agyemang Kwarteng for his outstanding performances, was disappointed with his side’s exit but took solace in their strong display of will and character. He said:

“Even though we are out of the UPAC games, I think we did very well because we didn’t have enough time to train, we also didn’t time to play as a team but we played our hearts out.”

Blue Crest College gained many admirers with an outstanding display against Accra Polytechnic where the debutants pushed the two-time winners to the brink of defeat before bad turnovers in the final seconds turned the tie.

The performance surprised many including coach Kwarteng, who praised his team for doing “tremendously well”.
Accra Polytechnic, by topping the zone, will feature in the quarter finals which takes place at the University of Ghana on April 14.

The 2016 UPAC Championship is headlined by Rexona, supported by MTN, Fanyogo and CAL Bank in partnership with Basketballghana.com, TV3, Y FM and Ghana Sports Newspaper.
