Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) beat Takoradi Polytechnic 49-42 in Day Two of the 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship at the University of Ghana.
Both teams went into the game having beaten University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) and Marshalls University College respectively on Day One which was held at Accra Polytechnic.

The closely contested game had several end to end moments where both teams exchanged possessions and shots. Takoradi Polytechnic surprisingly seemed to lose their cool as they lost control of rebounds and shot the early when there was time to make the extra pass to create space.

The main architects Ekow Amoako, Nana Kwame Adjei made the best of KNUST’s controlled pace by making crucial shots and rebounds respectively. Despite losing out in the early quarters of the game albeit with a lot of scrappy plays, Takoradi Polytechnic Point Guard Kent Fosu kept his team in close contention.

Fosu, Most Valuable Player in Zone E, had many timely runs into the paint and finished strongly in spite of KNUST’s tremendous ability to contest shots consistently. When he wasn’t scoring and driving, Fosu was an absolute pest on the defensive end as he made key steals down the stretch.

However, KNUST’s lead was whittled but never looked in danger of giving away the team’s second win of the tournament.

The 2016 UPAC Championship is headlined by Rexona, supported by MTN, CAL Bank and Fanyogo in partnership with Basketballghana.com, Y FM, TV3 and Ghana Sports Newspaper.
