Ghana Technology University College (GTUC-Accra) captain Charles Annan has reiterated his team’s abysmal performance in the just ended Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship was down to being “relaxed mentally”.

The Power Forward/Center made the statement in an interview with Basketballghana.com after he was awarded the Best Basketball Player of the Year by the institution, Annan pointed out the reason for his side’s poor showing in the competition. He said:

“We came into the UPAC Championship relaxed mentally because upon hearing that they (University of Professional Studies) had redrawn from the group, we thought we had won the group and surprises came along with GIMPA(Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration), PUC (Pentecost University College).

After receiving the award, Annan was quick to note how important receiving the award will spur him on to work harder.

GTUC lost to GIMPA 26-30 and Pentecost University 20-22 to exist the competition but fared better in the Private Universities Students Association Games (PUSAG) basketball competition by placing third.

The team featuring former Zenith University College Point Guard gem and 2015 Tertiary Player of the Year nominee saw off competition from the likes of Central University and Regent University College on its’ way to claim bronze.
