Magic coach James Okine has indicated this season’s Greater Accra Basketball Men’s Division I League will be exciting because of improved competition in the league.
The 2016 season will commence on Friday May 6 with Tema Youth taking on Fire in the opening game at Lebanon House in Tudu, Accra. The day’s other games will have Navy take on Reformers and Magic take on Holy Family.
Speaking to Basketballghana.com, Okine was confident the new season will be better than previous seasons because of the improved level of play from all entities involved. He said:
“This season is going to be so exciting because there are a lot of competitive teams like Tema Youth, DC Dynamics. Magic has guys that we believe in them and we know they can deliver when the time comes”.
He was also in support of changes to the format of the league by stating “that is what we are all looking up to we all want to make it to the final eight”.
This season’s league has a changed format where the top eight teams after the first round, qualify for the post season where the top seeded teams will take on lower seeded teams.
The ninth and tenth placed teams will be demoted to the second tier Division II.
