Magic Basketball Team Manager Anthony Nartey Arjoh has fingered publicity and money as the main factors that affect the growth of the Greater Accra Men’s Division I Basketball League. The 2016 league will commence on Friday May 6 with Tema Youth taking on Fire in the opening game at the Lebanon House in Tudu, Accra at 17:00 GMT.
In an interview Basketballghana.com, the veteran administrator expressed how excited he was about the upcoming season but was quick to stress the need for more money to be pumped into the league. He said, “There is no publicity so nobody comes to matches”.
He also pointed out money was a big problem stalling the progress of the league since the league winner does not get any financial reward. “Money is a big problem but this year we plan on giving them (the team) something small”.
Magic will take on Holy Family in the day’s final game with Navy taking on Reformers in the preceding game.
However, reigning champions Braves of CEPS will begin its’ title defense in the second week when it takes on Rangers.
New entrants DC Dynamics will make its’ debut in the league in the second week as well when it takes on Airforce.
