Braves of CEPS and Navy’s Male Basketball Team won on Day One of the 2016 Greater Accra Men’s Division I Basketball League which commenced on Friday May 6 at the Lebanon House in Tudu, Accra.
The pair scored impressive wins over Holy Family and Tema Youth respectively. Defending champions Braves started its’ title defense on a winning note with a 69-37 shellacking of Holy Family. The latter failed to show up with any substitutes and a coach.
The perennial favorites wasted no time in dispatching Family with their star studded line up which features some of Ghana’s best players including Emmanuel Borsah, Mutaleeb Alhassan, Baniba Dodzie and Suleman Abubakar.
Navy on the other hand, halted a strong rally from Tema Youth to win 56-41 over last year’s runners up. Leading 37-19 going into the final quarter, Navy withstood a barrage of three point shots which threatened to wipe out the huge lead. However, the team had just enough firepower to douse Tema’s fight back.
The final game of the day had debutants DC Dynamics take on Teshie Rangers only to lose narrowly 50-52 in the team’s first game in Division I. The team gained promotion from Division II after annexing the trophy last season.
Despite leading for most of the game, the team capitulated in the final minutes to hand Rangers the win.
The league resumes next week with the likes of Magic and Prisons set to be in action.
