Defending Greater Accra Men’s Division I Basketball League Champions Braves of CEPS made a winning start to their latest title defense by beating Holy Family 69-37 at the Lebanon House in Tudu, Accra.

Before the game Tema Youth and Navy had served up a wholly enjoyable game for fans prior to Holy Family’s tangle with the perennial favorites. Last year’s runners up Tema Youth lost 46-51 to the Alexander Tindani led Navy team.

Braves, parading a rich collection of stellar names in Ghanaian basketball circles including Baniba Dodzie, Emmanuel Borsah, Richard Borsah, 2015 National Most Valuable Player Mutaleeb Alhassan and Suleman Abubakar had no problems dispatching Holy Family.

Despite playing admirably to enter the second quarter level with Braves at 11, the undermanned and shorthanded Holy Family side eventually began to wear out as the team fell 17-27. The defending champs grew into their own with each passing minute as Baniba and Alhassan proved to be a handful for Family.

Holy Family was able to stay in contention for major stretches in the game thanks to its’ impressive Point Guard Adams who dazzled all with sublime ball handling skills and impeccable passing. The team had no substitutes and no coach.

The writings became all too clear as Braves repeatedly scored in bunches over Family who looked totally gassed.

Debutants DC Dynamics marked its’ life in Division I with a 50-52 loss to Teshie Rangers in the day’s final game.
