Recently crowned All Africa University Games Basketball Champions University of Ghana (UG), have touched down at the Kotoka International Airport in Ghana’s capital, Accra. The team arrived with members of the entourage including the institution’s Sports Director Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu and Directorate’s representative Henry Nii Sackey.
University of Ghana matched expectations by triumphing in the basketball competition against teams from prestigious institutions in Africa including host nation South Africa and Zambia. The team is expected to present the trophy to Vice Chancellor Ebenzer Owusu Oduro.
Led by Coach Meme Falconer, the team was grateful for the immense support and prayer by all. Winning the continental guarantees the team’s enshrinement in folklore following similar achievements in GUSA (Ghana Universities Sports Association) and UPAC (Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges) basketball competitions.
UG’s Male Basketball Team beat the likes of University of Lusaka from Zambia, Midlands State University from Zimbabwe and University of Johannesburg. The Games which are popularly known as the FASU Games, concluded on July 2 following a week of celebrating excellence in multiple sports disciplines including Table Tennis, Volleyball and Football.
