Accra Polytechnic, Braves of Customs and 2016 Ghana Basketball Awards Most Valuable Male Player of the Year Suleman Abubakar has fingered working hard towards a dream as the main reason behind his success.

The tall Center scooped the biggest prize at the event which took place at the Best Western Premier Hotel in Ghana’s capital, Accra where his female contemporary at Accra Polytechnic and Braves, Matilda Gordon did same in the female category.

Speaking exclusively to Basketballghana.com, Abubakar acknowledged his journey from backup Center to being named best player in the nation is down to hard work.

“It has been a very, very difficult journey but its’ all about working hard and having a dream. If you have a dream, have a desire…and you work towards it, you will get there” he said.

He also recognized the efforts of his stellar teammates including Most Valuable Player of the Year nominees Hashim Brimah and Abdul Mutaleeb Alhassan, stating they made the game easier for him.

“Yes that really helps because when you work hard and your teammate are notable to convert it into a shot, it doesn’t make your work useful but when you are able to work hard with the support of your teammate, I think your hard work will pay off even if not the award but winning games”.

Abubakar failed to make it two wins on the night as he lost out on the Tertiary Male Player of the Year category to Maxwell Mod.
