High schools in Ghana are gearing up for the upcoming Sprite Ball Championship early next year which promises to be the best edition of the country’s biggest basketball event as it celebrates the tenth anniversary.

As such, teams have already stepped preparations for the event by competing in series of tournaments and friendly games.

For schools in the Central Region, zonal games at the annual Inter High Schools Games have began with Mfantsiman Girls Senior High School and reigning champions Aggrey Memorial Mount Zion booking spots in the female division final.

Reigning male champions St. Augustine’s College lost heavily to bitter rival and 2016 finalist Mfantsipim School recently with the former losing 23-40 to the latter side. Aggrey’s male side eked out a 24-23 win over Adisadel College yesterday.

Qualifiers in the region are set to begin early November.

In the Ashanti Region, teams including Prempeh College, Opoku Ware School, Kumasi Girls Senior High School and two time female champions T.I. Ahmadiyya have kept themselves busy by playing in a host of friendly games.

Since its inception in 2007, Sprite Ball has become the most sought after trophy at the high school level.
