Highly fancied pair Nungua Coldstore and Ashaiman Lions failed to live up to expectations after both sides crashed out of the Ebi Bright Basketball Tournament held to Tema Central and Flashlights respectively at the Tema Community 4 Court.
Nungua was recently crowned Champions of the Tema Community Basketball League’s maiden edition after dominating the seven team roster with the likes of Most Valuable Player Kwame Boamah Djan, Emmanuel Wolff, Kofi Agyei, and Nana Owusu Afriyie among others.
However, Coldstore lost 27-36 to eventual champions Tema Central in the opening round of the Ebi Bright Tournament in an underwhelming performance.
The losing side in the league final, Ashaiman Lions, lost 51-58 to Flashlights of Tema New Town in its opening game. Lions missed several key players including Center Ahmed Bashiru and Shooting Guard Elvis Pobi-Siaw in the loss as the side played failed to deliver on the pre tournament hype.
Tema Central and Flashlights moved on to the final before Tema won the tie 44-40 as Central’s Guard Aninagyei Osei was named Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.
National Democratic Congress Parliamentary Candidate for Tema Central Constituency, Ebi Bright funded the tournament.
