UG in action against KNUST.
UG won the 2016 UPAC.

University of Ghana (UG) has beaten Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) 43-35 in the first semifinal of the Mini Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games Basketball competition taking place at the University of Cape-Coast (UCC) Gymnasium.

UG, who won the competition at the main Games in January 2016, peeled away from its fierce rival in the final minutes after the score was tied at 32 in the third quarter.

However, the UPAC and All Africa University Games Champions made their experience count in crunch time as KNUST faltered late in the game.

The win extends UG’s winning run in the competition to three after getting past University of Development Studies (UDS) and University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).

The result also puts UG in the final game set to be played on Thursday January 12 at the same venue.

Host UCC plays (UDS) next for a place in the finals alongside UG.

KNUST will play the loser of the UCC-UDS game prior to the final game.
