Reigning UPAC Champions University of Ghana (UG)’s winning run will be put on the line once again as the side prepares to compete in this year’s Championship.

The team headlines Zone D which has Blue Crest University, Ho Technical University and University of Professional Studies (UPSA). Games in the zone will commence on March 10 at the tertiary’s Central Court.

UG was undefeated through 2016 as the side won the GUSA, Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship and All Africa University Games in Johannesburg. The run was extended earlier this year by winning the Mini GUSA basketball competition.

Despite the loss of several key members of last year’s fearsome side including Point Guards Joshua Akai and Captain Aziz Abubakar and Muhaimin Guba, the team recovered well to beat Mini GUSA Host University of Cape-Coast (UCC) 75-56.

UCC qualified from Zone C after winning all games in the zone to make the quarter finals.

Zone A games involving Marshalls University College, Ghana Technology University College (GTUC), GIMPA and Regional Maritime University College will be played on the same day.

Fixtures were scheduled to be played on February 17 but the demise of Championship supervisor Matthias Ocloo convinced organizers Rite Sports Limited to postpone the event.
