UG (yellow) beat Galaxy.
A shot from the Fire (red)-Braves game.

University of Ghana (UG) and Braves of Customs have registered maiden wins of the 2017 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Women’s Division by beating Tudu Galaxy and Fire Service respectively.

UG got the better of Galaxy with a 33-29 win in the first game of the second week as Braves pummeled Fire Service 46-26.Galaxy won the hearts of many after beating defending champions Braves playing just six players in the opening round.

However, a slew of turnovers and slack defense cost the side particularly in the final quarter in light of UG regaining the game’s lead after ceding it in the third quarter.

UG finished the first quarter in front with a 15-13 lead but Galaxy faltered in the fourth quarter which dotted with three point shots from both teams.

The second game was equally impressive as defending champions Braves showed the sort of form that has made the side a dominant force in the division.

After suffering a shock 29-31 loss to a shorthanded Galaxy side, Braves responded perfectly by dominating Fire Service from start to finish.

Fire couldn’t stay with the reigning champions as last year’s bottom ranked side got toasted through all four quarters.

Braves led 12-2 after the first quarter, extending it to 37-17 at the end of the third quarter before finishing the job off with a 20 point difference.
