Debutant quarterfinalist in the ongoing Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship, University of Development Studies (UDS-Tamale) has scored its first win of the knockout stage.

The Northern Region representative beat University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) 27-26 to register in the win column for the first time in the competition.

The low scoring game had lots of stops as fouls quickly ramped up in the lead up to a first half that ended with the score tied at 13.

However, UENR who went into the game as favorites failed to live up to that tag with star player Robert Brew guilty of turning the ball over at crucial stages of the matchup.

UDS’ defense got active as the side recorded a couple of chase down blocks to protect its four popint with two minutes left to play.

UENR failed to convert chances from the charity stripe to fall to the Tamale-based side.

Accra Technical University plays All Nations University College next in Group B.
