Starting Point Guard for the University of Ghana (UG) Male Basketball Team Joel Kwame Opoku has been named Most Valuable Player of the 2017 UPAC Basketball Championship.

The former Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC-Legon) Guard played a key role in UG’s successful defense to its UPAC title; UG beat Marshalls University College 41-23 to lift this year’s edition.

Opoku was a major threat on both ends of the floor as he facilitated for teammates to score while pestering opposing players.

He often got on the score sheet through UG’s unbeaten run to the crown.

One of his many highlight plays in the competition had him swivel past two defenders before beating a third marker with an inside and out move while pump faking to setup Kelvin Tamakloe for an easy layup against Marshalls in the quarterfinals.

Though backup Guard Joshua Akai stole the spot light in the final game, Opoku’s performances convinced the technical heads to declare the third year student the best in the prestigious competition.

Opoku is eligible for next year’s competition.
