Co-Hosts of this year’s African Nations Championship (AfroBasket) Senegal and Tunisia, have made it to the semifinals of the competition.

Both nations secured passage to the last four spots after winning respective matches in Tunisia’s capital, Tunis against Angola and Democratic Republic of Congo respectively; Senegal beat record winners Angola 66-57 and Tunisia beat Congo 81-60.

However, the night belonged to surprise package Morocco who topped Egypt 66-62 in a thrilling opening game of the round that had the North African nations face off for a semifinal berth.

The win gives Morocco the chance to extend its amazing run in the competition after recording similar success over Angola in the preliminary stage. Morocco beat Angola 60-53 and overcame a 22 point outing from Egypt’s Ibram El Gammal.

Defending Champions Nigeria produced its highest scoring game yet in the tournament to beat Cameroon 106-91 and maintain its quest of a second straight African title.

Semifinal games will be played tonight with Tunisia taking on Morocco and Senegal taking on Nigeria in all North African, All West African showdown.
