Former University of Connecticut and Ghana Center Amida Brimah has been called to San Antonio Spurs Training Camp ahead of the 2017-2018 NBA Season.
The top shot blocker joins six other foreign nationals on the Spurs 19 man camp roster which includes NBA veterans Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili of France and Argentina respectively, Patty Mills of Australia and Pau Gasol of Spain.
Younger players Davis Bertans of Latvia and Joffrey Lauvergne of France complete the list of foreign national on the team which will be trimmed to 15 for the team’s opening game against Minnesota Timberwolves on October 18.
Headlining the group is Brimah whose selection is an intriguing one considering the Tudu-born Center featured in few minutes for Chicago Bulls in this year’s NBA Summer League.
Brimah won the 2014 College Championship during his time at UCONN where he was named Captain in final season with the Huskies.
He is the only true Center on the list and is likely to make the cut as Gasol and Matt Costello are listed Forwards/Centers. Should he miss the guaranteed spots cut, Amida figures to ink a two way contract with the five time NBA Champions.
