Heavyweights Tunisia and Angola have topped Groups C and A respectively in the just first round of the FIBA 2019 World Cup qualifiers.

The African qualifiers were held in Yaounde and Luanda with Group A games taking place in Cameroon’s capital and Group C games taking place in Angola’s capital.

Tunisia beat 96-56 Guinea on the final day to top the group with maximum points after clinching wins over Chad and Cameroon.

Cameroon beat Chad 65-61 to place second in the group with two wins in three games; Chad recorded the opposite of Cameroon’s record and Guinea ended with no wins.

Angola played in front of 11,500 spectators at the Kilamba Arena and served them with a 62-56 win over Morocco.

It was a good win for the side who avenged a shocking loss to the North Africans at the last African Nations Championship (AfroBasket) en route to exiting at the quarterfinals.

The record AfroBasket winners Egypt and Democratic Republic of Congo ahead of the final game over the weekend to lead the group.

Egypt beat Morocco 67-63 in the North African showdown to place second as DR Congo bottomed out in the group.
