Qualifying games for the upcoming national high school basketball championship has taken in the Western Region with three schools booking places to the competition.

St. John’s School, Sekondi, Takoradi Technical Institute(TTI) and Ahanataman Girls Senior High School have qualified to play at the Sprite Ball Championship.

Ghana’s biggest high school basketball competition takes place in Accra at the El Wak Stadium from January 4-6, 2018 with 26 schools competing for the top prize.

After clinching third place at the last national tourney, St. John’s were favorites heading to the regional qualifiers and proved that by dispatching opponents to place first.

The second and final spot in the male division was clinched by TTI who missed out on beating arch rival St. John’s to the regional trophy.

Both teams will represent the region at the national games where 16 schools in the male division will compete to upstage reigning champions Opoku Ware School.

By qualifying from the region, Ahantaman will be part of a team roster due to compete in the girls division.
