Ghanaian youth are more interested in basketball than football according to Volta Region Physical Education Coordinator Bright Dotse.

He made the statement during the Sprite Ball Trophy Tour and Clinic where players from several schools in the regional capital Ho participated in the training session.

Ghana Basketball Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2011 Lawal Brimah led the session taking participants through several drills in the sport.

Seeing the enthusiasm exhibited by the participants, long tenured physical education administrator Dotse believed football is no longer the first interest of the Ghanaian youth.

“If you compare football to basketball right now, basketball is now getting grounds and the youth are more interested in basketball” he said.

The Clinic took place at Mawuli School with players coming from the likes of Awudome Senior High School; Mawuli and Awudome will compete at the next Sprite Ball Championship.

Sprite Ball takes place at the El Wak Stadium in Accra from January 4-6, 2018 with 26 schools competing in the girls and boys divisions.
