AIS receive trophy for placing first in girls category.

GCHIS (red) needed overtime to put SOS away

Akosombo International School’s (AIS) Female Basketball Team has clinched gold in the 2018 International Schools Sports Association Games (ISSAG).

The school beat Tema International School (TIS) 8-4 in the final game to clinch the trophy after falling in the 2017 final to Ghana International School (GIS).

Beating TIS marks a big bounce back performance from AIS who were a few months shy of losing 4-8 in last year’s competition.

Despite beating host GIS in the semifinal, TIS got blitzed in the first half with AIS taking a commanding 8-0 lead to set the tone for the game’s win.

GIS placed third in the girls’ basketball competition ahead of Ghana Christian High International School (GCHIS) who came fourth.

In the boys division, AIS missed out on a top three finish as GCHIS piped SOS Herman Gmeiner 18-17 in overtime to claim gold.

The score at the end of regulation was tied at 15 and extra minutes were needed to settle the compelling game. Morgan International School and GIS were third and fourth respectively.
