This year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship is upon us with reports reaching Basketballghana.com pointing to a late February start date.

Prior to the purported start date for the competition, regional qualifiers could prove to be not so straight forward this time around.

Key among the many competitive regional fixtures is the Central Region Zone which is set to have University of Education-Winneba (UEW) and University of Cape-Coast (UCC) battle it out for the lone qualification spot to the national event.

Both teams secured medals at the recently held Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games at the University of Development Studies in Tamale.

UCC won silver in the male basketball competition with UEW clinching bronze as University of Ghana clinched gold for the second straight time.

Since completely falling out of the running in last year’s regional games, UEW has improved markedly highlighted by its surprise bronze medal win in Tamale.

On the other hand, UCC has put together an impressive run since 2017 placing second at the Mini GUSA last year before repeating the feat a fortnight ago.
