The 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship is set to commence on Saturday March 3 at Pope John Senior High School and Junior Seminary.

However, the opening games will be played under the shadow of fallen legendary basketball figure Benjamin Baafi who passed away exactly a year ago on March 2.

Baafi acted as club administrator, manager and Chairman of the Accra Basketball League and Greater Accra Basketball Association.

He received the 2016 Dedication and Valor Award at the Ghana Basketball Awards two years ago on the back of long dedicated years to developing basketball.

This year’s competition begins in the Eastern Region Zone this weekend with four teams set to battle for the zone’s lone spot at the national games in April.

All Nations University College, Ho Technical University, Presbyterian University College and Koforidua Technical University will compete in the zone.

All Nations roll to tomorrow’s fixtures as defending champions after shocking the field in last year’s competition to make the national games in its maiden appearance.
