UG retained its 2016 trophy last year.
University of Ghana (UG) Basketball Coach Dr. Baba Samori has stated his side will competing against itself and not opponents in this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

He made the statement in n interview on Kwese Free Sports morning show “HeadStart” recently as UG prepare to play in the 2018 UPAC.

The team heads into the competition as back to winners and has a chance to become the first winner of three straight Championships.

UG has been drawn in Zone 8 alongside Regional Maritime University College, Pentecost University College and Radford University College.

Competition for the zone’s top spot to secure a spot in the next stage of the Championship will be played out on Thursday March 29 at UG.

Ahead of the games, Samori is adamant his side faces a bigger threat other than themselves stating, “No team is going to beat the University of Ghana. If we lose it means we let ourselves lose we are competing ourselves”.

The zone is the last in this year’s preliminary stage.
