The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) Male Basketball Team was tipped to qualify from Zone 4 of this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

After winning the past two editions, UENR was in line for a third zonal title before Sunyani Technical University delivered a 23-8 win to qualify from the zone at UENR’s expense.

The loss means UENR misses out on the chance to build on its fourth rank at last year’s UPAC National competition.

However, things are looking up for the side in the Global Sporting Platform (GSP) League since UENR has regained top spot in the eight team league.

The team recorded a 36-24 lead over LIR Royals and a 68-23 win over Barracks Scorpions in Week 9 and 10 respectively over the weekend.

The wins coupled with hitherto league leader Suncity Braves shock 36-39 loss to Scorpions in Week 9 has proven enough to get UENR back to the top.

UENR is in a tough battle to defend its league title.
