Eight teams have qualified to play in the national competition of this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

This year’s national games takes place from April 12-14 at the University of Ghana (UG) with the host team as defending champions.

Five out of the eight qualified teams played at home in the preliminary stage and made it count by topping the respective zones to progress further in the competition.

Takoradi Technical University played host in Zone 2 and qualified with University of Education-Winneba (UEW) doing same in Zone 3.

Sunyani Technical University punched its ticket in the next stage for the first time since 2011 with a 23-8 win over UENR in front of its fans in Zone 4.

Accra Technical University was dominant in Zone 6 and clinched top spot as it plots to win its third UPAC title. ATU was the zonal host.

Defending champion UG hosted the last round of games in the preliminary stage and sealed a place at the national stage by winning Zone 8.
