For the third straight time, Ghana Police Service beat Braves of Customs in the 2018 campaign and the latest win took place earlier tonight at Lebanon House Court in Tudu.

Police beat strong rival Braves 39-27 to clinch the maiden edition of the CAP 7 Memorial Basketball Tournament; the competition commenced on September 14 and was organized to honour former Accra Basketball League (ABL) Chairman Benjamin Baafi.

Braves’ Gloria Gyampoh drained a couple of off balanced shots early and Martina Doe stole the ball and scored a layup to stretch the lead as Police struggled to get going in the first quarter. However, Police recovered and went on a good run in the final minutes to end the quarter trailing 11-13.

A deep three point shot gave Police a 14-13 lead. Matilda Gordon tied the game at 14 but both teams missed good looks at the rim in the second quarter which ended tied at 18.

Gordon exited the game with a knee injury midway through the third quarter while driving to the basket. Balkisu Saleem scored five straight points including a three point play to extend Police’s lead to 27-21 heading to the final quarter.

Police Point Guard Mavis Martey scored two free throws to stretch Police’s lead to 11 (33-22) with 5:32 left to play in the game

Gyampoh ended Braves barren run with a pair of free throws but Police responded to close the game with a 39- 27 win despite a late three point shot from Doe.
