Opoku Ware School (OWASS) and Kumasi Girls High School have successfully defended their Ashanti Regional titles to qualify for the next Sprite Ball Championship.

OWASS and Kumasi Girls confirmed their status as the best in the region by winning all games played earlier today at the Our Lady of Grace Senior High School in the final round of qualification.

Kumasi Girls beat St. Louis Senior High School 19-12 for its second straight regional title; both schools will represent the region at the national games in January next year.

KGEE held a 17-3 lead at half time but fared poorly in the second half as St. Louis mounted a spirited comeback fell short at the end of the contest. By placing second, St. Louis returns to Sprite Ball for the first time in seven years.

Opoku Ware beat Prempeh College 26-21 in a tense game that had little to choose between the two sides especially in the first half which ended in a 14-12 lead for OWASS.

Both teams return to the national competition in 2019. Sprite Ball is the biggest high school basketball competition in Ghana.
