Ghana Fire Service looked in control for most parts of its interesting game against Kawukudi Warriors but a slip late in the game cost the team a win.

Fire Service lost 58-59 to Warriors in the 2019 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division I matchup played on Saturday, October 5 at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu.

Despite failing to make the playoffs this season, Warriors were determined to exit the regular season with a bang and did so against a Fire side that played complacently in stretches.

Fire led 26-23 at the end of the first half. Ernest Kojo Ofori got the third quarter off with an uncontested corner three point shot. Navy started impressively and scored points to take a 33-30 lead with the likes of Yaw Afrifa scoring from the free throw line.

Ernest Otu Laryea and Daniel Amartey came off the bench to hit three point shots to give Fire a 40-35 lead. Sylvester Asrifie drained a buzzer beating three point shot for Navy to end the third quarter trailing 38-40.

Moses Abu blocked a dunk attempt by Abdul Bashiru; Fire Forward Emmanuel Ocquaye delivered one of his own. Obed Vorjee scored a three pointer and a jump shot on back to back possessions to give Warriors a 46-43 lead. Fire went on a six point run to tie the game at 49 with Bashiru scoring four points and Otu Laryea adding a layup.

Both teams went on runs exchanging leads in the final quarter. Asirifie scored a three pointer from the top of the key to give Warriors a 59-58 lead with 33 seconds remaining.
