XMAS Tournament Winners Kings

Oil City Kings have won the Western Basketball Association (WBA) XMAS Basketball Tournament after beating Legends in the final game.

Kings secured a 39-33 win over Legends to lift trophy at the Takoradi Technical University (TTU) Court in Ghana’s Western regional capital, Sekondi-Takoradi this weekend.

Oil City triumphed over a select group of veteran players including TTU Coach Antwi Ankrah to end the competition unbeaten. Guard Christopher Appiah was named Most Valuable Player of the Year.

Kings beat Viking Warriors 23-20 in the semifinals and recorded a win over Sekondi Bikats at the preliminary round. Legends topped Eff-Ess 23-15 in the semifinals.

Ten teams competed in the one day tournament including the likes of TTU Oilers, Dark Elites and University of Mines and Technology (UMAT).

St. John’s School and Sekondi College participated in the tournament but missed out on playing in the semifinals; both schools have qualified to the 2020 Sprite Ball Championship and playing in the tournament served as preparation for next year’s High School Tournament.
