Defending Sprite Ball Champions in the Boys and Girls Divisions-Mfantsipim School and Kumasi Girls Senior High School-have recorded mixed results in the opening games of the 2020 Championship.

Mfantsipim School played against Keta Business College but lost 24-32 to the Volta Region representative in a surprising result at the El Wak Stadium in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

The five time champions of the West Africa nation’s biggest High School Basketball tournament had few answers for the Keta based school who had a size advantage.

Mfantsipim Captain Gabriel Hammond promised his side will defend the championship but his team needs to win its next game against Sekondi College to stay in the running for a place in the quarterfinals.

In the Girls division, Kumasi Girls had more trouble than expected against debutant Bueman Senior High School who represent Volta Region in the division but ended with a 19-16 win.

Kumasi Girls are attempting to win an unprecedented third straight title in the division. Sprite Ball is headlined by the Coca-Cola Company.
