Lightning never strikes the same place twice as the saying goes but in Mfantsipim School’s case, lightning did strike twice after missing out on the 2020 Sprite Ball Championship.

Mfantsipim lost 40-48 to Keta Business College in the Boys Division Final in the just ended competition to miss out on a record extending sixth Sprite Ball title.

The loss was Mfantsipim’s second in as many games to Keta Business in the competition after losing 24-32 in the opening game of the tournament.

The most accomplished school in Sprite Ball history recovered from the shock loss and hammered Sekondi College 49-8 to progress from Group A en route to a second meeting.

A similar run of form took place at the 2018 edition where Presbyterian Senior High School (PRESEC-Osu) stunned Mfantsipim in the opening game and recorded a 25-22 to win the title.

Such happenings have cost Mfantsipim more title wins in Ghana’s biggest High School Basketball tournament  despite having five titles in the bag.
