The semifinal round of the Tema Community Basketball League playoffs got off to an interesting and exciting start this past weekend.

Home side Team Community 4 lost 37-48 to Spintex Knights in a battle that two equally matched teams slug it out in an intense game. Another win on Sunday, January 26 puts Knights into the finals.

The follow up game was played with the same intensity as the first and ended in a surprising 46-42 win for Tema Rockets at the expense of defending champions Nungua Coldstore.

Many picked Coldstore as favourites thanks to the several team’s young and athletic members compared to a veteran heavy Rockets roster.

However, Rockets played tough on defense inside the paint and on the perimeter and slowed down Coldstore’s vaunted three point shooting threat.

Guards Jonathan Walker, Joy Ofori and Emmanuel Wolff had subpar performances from distance as Rockets stuck George Opoku-Pare and Jibril Musah on them on the perimeter.

Inside, Baba Ibrahim and Enoch Borsah banged away against Coldstore’s Awuletey Junior and Kwame Boamah Djan to give Rockets a 1-0 series advantage.

Coldstore Shooting Wolff was policed heavily in the game.
